Many beginner teachers experience the transition from student teacher to as challenging and a huge reality shock. These adapting demands are often daunting they therefore need assistance navigate transition. The researchers argue that mentorship programmes can assist in addressing these challenges. study makes point literature on South Africa has largely been perspective of administrators, designers providers programmes, rather than themselves. aim was ascertain perception public primary schools Ugu district KwaZulu-Natal, Africa, programmes. framed within constructionist theoretical framework made use qualitative approach, using structured interviews data collection instrument. revealed experienced challenges with administration, classroom management adjusting school environment. findings further existing informal failed adequately address meet teachers’ professional needs. researchers, however, formal well-designed potentially have ability encounter.
